Movie Monday #4: Ben Dunlap A Passionate Life

A very moving and inspiring movie/talk. Ben Dunlap talks about his experiences with Hungarians and much much more. This talk should be of special interest for students in “The Psychology of Prejudice, Hate and Violence”. Students in 414 who just finished the chapter on student diversity and are thinking about ways to increase tolerance and reduce prejudice will also find this meaninful.  P.S. Bring the Kleenex…

Movie Monday #3 Jeff Hawkins Brain Theory

This week’s move/talk is by Jeff Hawkins who is from the Redwood Center of Theoretical Neuroscience in Berkeley, California. Jeff thinks that we need a theoretical basis for neuroscience and gets us started with the beginnings of his own theory that the human neocortex doesn’t work like a processor; rather, it relies on “a memory system that stores and plays back experiences to help us predict, intelligently, what will happen next“.
